My favourite powder – Yalta’s Makeup Review (Part 3)

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

A good powder product is a must-have. It helps you set the foundation and concealer. When you are out and need to fix your makeup it is quite helpful as well.

I’m ridiculously strict about powder. Not many products can satisfy me at all. Lots of girls love Chanel and Dior ones, but they are very bad in my eyes. Chanel powder is in good quality but it hardly does anything. What’s more, for Asian girls, it can easily make your skin look dull after hours. What about Dior? Well, their powder products are not even in good quality to me. So Bobbie Brown? Oh, well, I hate it. I guess I sound very picky. Hehe. :P

Pressed powder would have higher coverage if compared to loose powder. It is also easier to carry with. Loose powder is great to use after foundation/concealer. Some pressed powder could be used dry or wet while loose powder usually is used dry.

Anyway, here are my favourites. Seriously, not many! I’m still trying to discover.

1. Giorgio Armani Silk Foundation Powder (N0 SPF)

As all of you can tell, I am a huge fan of this brand. I have most of their products and I always love to test out their new ones.

Anyway, this seems their most famous one. I guess there is another version of it with SPF in Asia.

Silk Foundation Powder could be used wet or dry. It has natural to full coverage. Usually if you use it as dry application, the coverage is less. I love it. It functions pretty much just like a loose powder when being used dry which gives you a natural look. Or, when not using foundation, I apply it after base/primer in either dry or wet application. Great in summer. Might be too dry for dry skin though.

2. Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Powder (No SPF)

My favourite foundation (liquid/cream) – Yalta’s Makeup Review (Part 2)

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

A good foundation can totally change your skin look. A bad foundation can totally make your skin look even worse.

I have some recommendations here and I hope it would help. My skin type is combination.

1. Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation & Matte Silk Foundation (No SPF)

Foundation products from Giorgio Armani is one of my all time favourites.

Luminous Silk Foundation is probably the best seller among all Giorgio Armani makeup products. It is suitable for all skin types. This oil-free foundation has Giorgio Armani’s special Micro-fil™ technology. This liquid foundation can last all day for combination skin or even oily skin while also hydrating the skin. And according to my friends who have dry skin, this foundation would not be too dry for them either. I really like it. It is weightless and it can easily help you create nude makeup. 12 colors available.

Matte Silk Foundation is oil-free too. It combines transparency with a matte finish to control shine. I’d recommend this for combination skin and oily skin or even normal skin for summer if you live somewhere humid. It gives you long lasting look and make your skin silky smooth. Also if you need foundation that has at least medium coverage while you still want natural look, this one is great too. However, the color starts with #4 which means that if you are quite pale then this one would not work on you. I myself tried #4 and it is kinda too dark for me. (my Luminous Silk Foundation color is #2)

BTW, Giorgio Armani provides #.5 (eg. #4.5, #5.5) colors to correct dullness and yellowish.

2. Giorgio Armani Lasting Silk UV Foundation (SPF 20)

My favourite base/primer – Yalta’s Makeup Review (Part 1)

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

Base/primer is very important in makeup. Many people do not take it seriously or just misunderstand about it. Actually, first, base/primer can fix your skin color, eg. green base can reduce the redness on your face, purple base can make your skin less yellow. Second, it can smooth, matify and laminate your skin, make it easier to put on foundation. Third, it can moisture your skin or control the oil, help the makeup last longer. Forth, some base/primer also have SPF.

So well the following products are my recommendations. They are my favourite. (My skin type is combination.)

1. Giorgio Armani Fluid Master Primer (No SPF)

Giorgio Armani has some of the best cosmetics products. Fluid Master Primer is one of them.

Fluid Master Primer is colorless and is inbetween gel and liquid. It is perfect for combination skin and oily skin. After you apply it on your face, you would find your skin very soft and matte. You wouldn’t even find many of the pores any more. Just like what is says, “an invisible second skin”. Also it controls the oil of your skin very well. From my own experiences, generally it would help you hold the makeup for about 8.5 hours to 9 hours.

2. SmashBox Photo Finish Foundation Primer (No SPF)
