A good powder product is a must-have. It helps you set the foundation and concealer. When you are out and need to fix your makeup it is quite helpful as well.
I’m ridiculously strict about powder. Not many products can satisfy me at all. Lots of girls love Chanel and Dior ones, but they are very bad in my eyes. Chanel powder is in good quality but it hardly does anything. What’s more, for Asian girls, it can easily make your skin look dull after hours. What about Dior? Well, their powder products are not even in good quality to me. So Bobbie Brown? Oh, well, I hate it. I guess I sound very picky. Hehe. :P
Pressed powder would have higher coverage if compared to loose powder. It is also easier to carry with. Loose powder is great to use after foundation/concealer. Some pressed powder could be used dry or wet while loose powder usually is used dry.
Anyway, here are my favourites. Seriously, not many! I’m still trying to discover.
1. Giorgio Armani Silk Foundation Powder (N0 SPF)

As all of you can tell, I am a huge fan of this brand. I have most of their products and I always love to test out their new ones.
Anyway, this seems their most famous one. I guess there is another version of it with SPF in Asia.
Silk Foundation Powder could be used wet or dry. It has natural to full coverage. Usually if you use it as dry application, the coverage is less. I love it. It functions pretty much just like a loose powder when being used dry which gives you a natural look. Or, when not using foundation, I apply it after base/primer in either dry or wet application. Great in summer. Might be too dry for dry skin though.
2. Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Powder (No SPF)

Their 2008 product. It could be used dry only. I now carry this anywhere I go.
This powder is more silky and smooth. It goes very well with their liquid foundation Luminous Silk Foundation. Best for nude makeup look. It is just like a loose powder, very light, natural effect, but so easy to carry with everywhere. Luminous matte finish.
Available in 8 shades.
3. Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder (No SPF)

Laura Mercier’s best product. Available in 3 colors (ivory, beige & translucent).
This product is amazing. It sets the makeup very well and gives an amazing finish to any makeup. It is oil-free. Great for every girl that has combination skin and oily skin. It is not cakey or powdery. This setting powder is just natural. I usually use the translucent one to have a healthy, natural and flawless skin look. Remember to remove the excess by tapping the puff on top of your hand. You would not want too much powder on your face – you just need a little and that’s totally enough.
4. SmashBox Photo Matte Anti-Shine Pressed Powder & Compact Anti-Shine (No SPF)

These two things are unbelievable. It is for oil control touchups anywhere. You can even use it as a base around the eyes and the eye liner and eye shadows would last for a whole day. As it says on their website, this product mattifies your skin without disturbing the makeup or causing build up, and it won’t clog pores. I have to say that it is all true. What’s more, it contains tea tree oil to help combat breakouts and vitamin E to help repair skin damage. It is just the perfect product for oily skin or normal to combination skin in hot and humid weather. Another product I bring everywhere.
The first one has two colors available and the second one only has one color. However, it seems that SmashBox does not have the first one any more officially.
4. SmashBox Halo Hydrating Perfect Powder (No SPF)

This product claims to reduce fine lines and wrinkles in 10 mins. I can’t tell whether it is true or not. I don’t really have wrinkles yet. :P But it is a nice product. Oil-free, Taic-free and Paraben-free.
So what is Halo? According to SmashBox website:
HALO is the first anti-aging powder with the science of skin care built in. It’s advanced formulation of pure gold, 48 minerals, 11 amino acids and a powerful peptide deliver powerful anti-aging benefits while the patented hydration system continuously revitalizes skin for a brighter, more radiant complexion all day. HALO’s innovative built in shaver gives you the perfect amount of luminous loose powder every time with no mess. Finally, a powder that multi-tasks as much as you do.
So basically this is an anti-aging powder. Though I cannot tell, I love the general look it gives. Natural and smooth, velvety skin.

Yea great post!
Giorgio Armani has also become 1 of my favorite since 2 years; I was never a fan of Dior neither Chanel too (but God I LOVE Chanel purses and bags<3);
Tho Guerlain compressed foundation is always my favorite for summer;
and Givenchy prisme powder either loose or pressed give both perfect finish to a winter foundation.
Now I've moved on trying everyday minerals, as long as you find out the matching tone it gives surprising look and hold effects. Plus with its lovely price, it is definitely worth a try !

haha i agree! chanel purses and bags are just so cute
The Guerlain one is pretty good too. But it doesn’t control oil that well in summer for me. maybe because i was living in subtropical cities.
Givenchy is nice! :D love their new mascara as well
haven’t got a chance to try everyday minerals yet. Gotta try it out!!

I have to say, every time I come to blog.yaltahong.com there is another interesting post up. A friend of mine was telling me about this topic a couple weeks ago. I think I will send my friend the link here and see what they say.
