I like Hong Kong. But frankly, there are many places, such as TST and Mong Kok, I seriously hate a lot. However, I am always into those small islands and Cheung Chau is probably my favourite.
This small island is 10km southwest of Hong Kong Island and there is ferries service between Central pier and Cheung Chau. It takes 55 minutes for ordinary ferries and 35 minutes for high speed ferries. For further details, check out the First Ferry website: http://www.nwff.com.hk/
Usually you can see beautiful views of Hong Kong on the ferry. It is really stunning! They have outdoor seats and you can get snacks and drinks on the ferry as well.

Cheung Chau is very local style. Not in the bad way. You can get to see the other side of Hong Kong but it would not make you feel bad and annoyed like Mong Kok. This small South China Sea island provides cheap seafood and local Hong Kong life style in the island way. There are shops, McD, Watsons, 7-11 etc. just at the opposite side of the ferry pier so it is quite convenient. And you can also get some hats, braclets and necklaces at the small shops or rent a bike for a few hours to explore the island.

The main beach in Cheung Chau is not very big but it is pretty quiet and nice. You can bring dogs there too. The island’s largest hotel which is called Warwick Hotel (3 stars) is just at the end of the beach. It is a nice hotel and some of the rooms have a balcony facing the sea and you can sit down there to have some wine or just stare at the view. There are also many small holiday villas or flats on the island.

Seafood restaurants are everywhere. Many locals and visitors as well would dine out at these restaurants. They usually would have seats at the street by the sea where you can see sunset and many fishermens’ small boats.
(Just a random restaurant)

Our favourite one is called Chao Fa Seafood Restaurant. After you get out of the ferry pier, just turn left and keep walking then you will see it. It is on the main street. They have very very yummy Chinese style seafood. It is really cheap too!

(Sweet & Sour Fish! Soooo yum. Great with steamed rice)

(Steamed Prawns with Garlic and Spring Onions. I’m addicted)

(Fried Crabs with Garlic and Chili. Not that impressive)
